Restorative Yoga
The Practice to Reclaim Your Energy
Restorative yoga is a practice that originates from B.K.S. Iyengar. This form of yoga, which is more therapeutic than spiritual, is characterized by an extremely slow pace that allows for physical, mental, and emotional relaxation.
What is Restorative Yoga?
In a restorative yoga session, the goal is to hold postures for extended periods, supported by props such as firm cushions, blankets, and blocks. This approach enables deep relaxation in each posture while adopting slow and deep breathing.
What Are the Benefits of Restorative Yoga?
Physical Benefits:
★ Improved Circulation: Restorative yoga energizes the blood and lymph, facilitating the removal of toxins towards the excretory organs, which help us eliminate organic waste.
★ Flexibility and Mobility: This practice lubricates the joints and stretches the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, contributing to maintaining physical flexibility and reducing the risk of injuries.
Mental Benefits:
★ Stress Reduction: By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, restorative yoga helps slow down all bodily functions, inducing deep relaxation and allowing the recovery of energy depleted by stress.

Who is Restorative Yoga For?
This form of yoga is particularly beneficial for:
★ Individuals who sit all day
★ Those who stand all day
★ People going through stressful periods
★ Individuals with significant mental loads
★ Anyone seeking relaxation
However, restorative yoga is not recommended for individuals who are hyperlax, those who have recently undergone surgery, or those diagnosed with certain forms of cancer (consulting your oncologist or yoga instructor before starting is advised).
What Do You Need for a Session?
★ Comfortable and warm clothing, as immobility may cause a sensation of cold
★ A yoga mat for comfortable seating
★ One or more firm cushions (or thick blankets if you don’t have cushions)
★ One or two yoga blocks (you can also use books as a substitute)
★ A strap
★ A blanket
It’s worth noting that not all of this equipment is necessary for every class. Some instructors and studios provide the required materials, so don’t hesitate to inquire in advance.
