Reclaiming Power Over Your Health

An Act of Sovereignty

When I started my reflexology training in 2016, I had already spent several years exploring the idea of being sovereign and, therefore, responsible for my own health. Of course, there are times when outside help is necessary, but overall, I deeply believe that we have an active role to play in our well-being.

Learning to listen to ourselves, eating better, moving regularly, and integrating practices like self-massage can help prevent many ailments.

But what does it really mean to be an active participant in your health rather than just a passive consumer of care?

Becoming an Active Participant in Your Health

Taking charge of your well-being starts with accepting a level of responsibility. This involves getting to know yourself and how your body functions:

★ What does my optimal state of health look like?
★ What signals is my body sending me?
★ Why does this small ailment keep coming back? Have I identified its trigger?

A general rule: It is not normal to experience pain every day.

Our energy works on a cycle, just like nature. We must learn to understand ourselves and recognize our needs according to each phase of our lives.

How to Reclaim Power Over Your Well-Being?

Here are a few steps to move towards a greater autonomy:

★ Listen to your body: Learn to recognize signs of fatigue, stress, or imbalance before they worsen.

★ Experiment: Try different approaches (nutrition, movement, breathing, rest…) and identify what works best for you.

★ Surround yourself wisely: Consult specialized practitioners (reflexologists, naturopaths, acupuncturists…) proactively, not just as a last resort.

Finding a Balance

Being sovereign does not mean rejecting conventional medicine. Educating yourself, knowing yourself better, and seeking preventive care from experts is essential, but it does not replace medical support when needed.

Which Tools to Use?

★ Explore local resources: What wellness practices are available near you?

★ Respect your instincts: Not all approaches suit everyone, and that’s okay! For example, a friend of mine would love to believe in foot reflexology… but he’s extremely ticklish! That’s probably not the best option for him.

★ Choose practitioners with discernment: Take the time to meet, ask questions, and see if a relationship of trust develops. You are their client, and it is entirely legitimate to express doubts and ask questions.

★ Don’t neglect the basics: Sleep, nutrition, movement, and time in nature. These fundamental elements are often overlooked in favor of external solutions, but they are some of the easiest and most effective ways to maintain balance.

Keep a critical mind: The “all-natural” approach can be beneficial, but it must be accompanied by reflection and a sense of balance.

A Conscious and Evolving Process

Reclaiming your health is a journey, not a final destination. The goal is not to find a one-size-fits-all method but to learn, experiment, and adjust based on your own experience.
